This document describes the various electrical components used in the 5 Series and summarizes how they work. Here is a Haynes Manual wiring diagram with the wires removed showing all the major components. Some of these major components include other components such as resistors, capacitors, relays and transistors. A capacitor stores electrical charge. If you disconnect the battery, the capacitor will maintain the Since it takes some time to charge the capacitor, the change in voltage of the capacitor is not instantaneous as it would be if you closed a switch between the two battery terminals.
There are many situations where having voltage build up slowly is desired and a capacitor is used to do that. All the charge flows out of the capacitor in a short time likely less than a second until all the charge stored in the capacitor has flowed through the bulb filament. As with charging, discharging is not instantaneous. There are situations when you want to send current somewhere, but not all at once in an instantaneous rush, and then have the current flow stop.
As shown in the diagram below, a capacitor is part of the engine ignition systemwhich is described elsewhere in this document. Capacitance is measured in Farads. Any wire with a current flowing though it develops a circular magnetic field around the wire. The direction of the magnetic field is defined by the direction of the current flow in the wire and is at right angles to the direction of the current flow.
Coils are versatile electromagnetic devices. Electric current flowing in a coil creates a magnetic field and a moving magnetic field passing by a coil will induce, or create, a current flow in the coil.
Interacting magnetic fields in two coils create a force that can move one of the coils if it is free to move, such as if it is attached to a shaft that is free to rotate.
A coil of wire the same length as a straight piece of wire will generate a stronger magnetic field than the straight wire. The more coils of wire the stronger the magnetic field of the coil compared to the straight piece of wire. However, the effect of changes in current flow through the straight wire are different than through a coil of wire. Consider the simple battery, switch, bulb circuit below. As shown in the diagram below, when the switch closes, current from the battery GREEN arrow starts flowing through the coil of wire. But, when a changing current moves through a coil of wire, the changing magnetic flux induces an electric current in the OPPOSITE direction to the in-flowing current that is proportional to how fast the magnetic flux is changing.

Wear Electro Static Discharge gloves when working. After cutting off the power when changing PWB assembly, disconnect or assemble. Be careful static when handling PWB assembly, and use Electro Static Discharge plastic pack when delivering or keeping it. That one I took a picture. Most of the diagram are self explanatory and could be easily understood. Most of the wires, has became brittle, I need to replace the entire wiring harness of my Kawasaki Barako tricycle. This has driven my eagerness to study and learn the entire wiring, where each lead is connected, its functions and how it works. Yes every section of it! I bought a new wiring harness from my suki, cost me 1, But when I compared it with the old one that is installed on my bike, one of the connectors at the dome is different.
The dome is the enclosure in front of the bike where most of the interconnection is and also where the headlight is mounted. In the old harness, it have a 9 pin white connector going to the meter panel dashboard. The dashboard have indicators such as 1. Headlight Hi beam, 2. Turn Signal indicator, 3. Neutral Gear indicator, 4. Odometer light. For clarity of this discussion, I divided the motor bike into four zones: 1. Head, 2.
Ignition, 3. Magneto, 4. Ignition switch provides power to the system, it is a single pole switch driven by an ignition key.
DC current flows from the battery, through a 10 amp fuse, white slate wire through one contact of a connector then to white wire; to the ignition switch; to the brown wire through the other contact of the black connector; to the brown slate wire thus providing positive DC current to the positive buss.
As a result live 12 volts DC power is delivered to the system. This coil gives out precise timed square waves on the output of the CDI module through the black white wire which is connected to the black wire of the ignition coil.
The output of the ignition coil is the high tension wire that goes to the spark plug. So when the driver switch on the ignition key and kicks his starter pedal, this forces movement of the piston inside the cylinder through the gears and crankshaft. This happens simultaneously with the firing of the spark plug thus starting the four stroke combustion process inside the combustion chamber.
As a result the engine of the bike would run continuously until the driver turn off the switch resulting to the cutting off of the battery voltage supply to the CDI. Charging the battery is an important aspect in the operation of the motor bike, as stated before hand the Barako will not start without a fully charged battery.
The illustrations that follows are self explanatory and therefore does need further explanation.Even so, we get a lot of questions about how to troubleshoot them. I have a yg6 cc go cart with no spark I replaced coil,stator,cdi starter relay,new battery have power up to key ignition but when you turn key to start nothing happens have lights starters good my cdi box has 6 pins but my connector has 5 wires which hole should the 2 plug wire go there is only one wire but 2 pins.
I have yerf dog scout model im tying to figure out if it is an ac or dc on the voltage. I have the same problem as Mike Arnold. As soon as the motor starts to turn over, I have fire on the plug. Maybe 2 or 3 sparks and then no fire until I switch off the key, at which point I get 2 or 3 more sparks.
Any ideas? I have the CDI pictured here. BTW, very happy to have found this website. I just bought a Hammerhead Sport, which ran awesome for the 5 minute test drive, then the belt broke.
